Our Charities
The Kids Closet of Berean Baptist Church
Kids Closet is an outreach program of Berean Baptist Church in Burnsville, MN. Their mission is to help meet the material needs of families in Dakota County while providing services to also help meet their spiritual needs.
The program has been in existence since 2007 and continues to grow each year both in the number of donations made and the number of families helped.
How it works:
All throughout the year, volunteers collect gently used children's items. They collect clothing of all sizes, toys, books and videos, baby equipment and bikes. Due to liability issues, they do not accept car seats. And since 2009, the Kids Closet also collects non-perishable food items.
Twice a year the Kids Closet event is held at the church. Dakota County residents are invited to come and "shop" the Kids Closet free of charge. No money is collected for any items, and guests are free to take as many items as they can use. As funds become available, the Kids Closet also provides items such as diapers, baby wipes, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, cereal, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, etc. These items are in great demand in our community and are distributed evenly to the guests.
The Kids Closet greatly appreciates your willingness to donate your gently used children's items. Be assured that your donation will be given to the Dakota County community free of charge. Many, many families will be greatly blessed by your generosity, and on behalf of them and the Kids Closet, we thank you.
If you have questions, comments, or would like information on how to donate children's items at other times during the year, please feel free to call the church office at 952-432-7168.
The Diaper Drive
The Diaper
Drive had its grassroots beginning in the Twin Cities in May of 2010,
due to the critical need for diapers for babies and seniors.
Kristen Grode began The Diaper Drive after finding some outgrown, open
packs of diapers from her two little girls. She wondered where to donate
them, and found that there is a HUGE need across the country for them!
Creating a diaper bank was an idea that kept nagging at her until she
decided to give in. That little spark of an idea has gotten countless
volunteers involved and doing drives in their communities! Since May,
over 70 organizations have contacted The Diaper Drive in hopes of
becoming distribution points, and being able to help their clients with
the donated diapers.
The Diaper Drive is now branching off into greater Minnesota, South
Dakota and North Dakota, with hopes of expanding into Wisconsin and Iowa
very soon!
Currently, there is a great deal of buzz in this country about the
shortage of diapers for those in financial need, and we are excited to
be a part of this movement toward mending, and then correcting, this gap
in the system!
